Irving Police Issues Warning on Tailgate Thefts

Over the last couple of weeks, investigators with the Irving Police Department have noticed an increase in tailgate thefts. The thefts have been occurring throughout the city at different times and the suspects have been targeting all makes and models of trucks. If your truck is equipped with a tailgate lock, please take a little extra time to ensure it is locked. Most of the thefts involved tucks that did not have the tailgate locked or were not equipped with a tailgate locking mechanism. If your vehicle is not equipped with a lock, there are aftermarket security systems that can be purchased. Investigators recommend etching your vehicle identification number onto the tailgate. If your truck will be parked for an extended period of time, consider removing the tailgate and placing it in a secure location.

Arrests have been made related to a number of these thefts, however; investigators would like residents to be aware of the incidents and to remain diligent in their crime prevention efforts. Always remember to call the police if you see someone or something suspicious.
