The Irving Police Department is currently investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in the 600 block of Balleywood at about 7:45 p.m. Prior to the shooting, officers were investigating a domestic disturbance involving the suspect in the officer involved shooting. Officers received information that the suspect had threatened family members with a firearm and he was believed to be armed and dangerous. A short time later the officers saw the suspect vehicle in the 1300 block of E. Pioneer and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect failed to stop and officers initiated a pursuit. The pursuit ended when the suspect pulled into the driveway of a residence in the 600 block of Balleywood. The suspect got out of the vehicle armed with an assault rifle and started shooting at the pursuing officers. Two officers returned fire striking the suspect multiple times.
The suspect was transported to Parkland Hospital in critical condition. The officers involved in the shooting were not injured. The identities of the suspect and officers are not being released at this time.
The investigation is in the initial stages; therefore, limited information is available at this time. The exact location, nature and relationship of those involved in the initial disturbance are still being investigated.
