The Irving Police Department participated in the state-wide Impaired Driving Mobilization grant over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Irving officers made 23 DWI arrests during the no-refusal operation. Six other arrests were made for non-alcohol related incidents and officers issued 61 citations. The Grand Prairie Police Department also utilized our operation, bringing six DWI arrests to our city for blood draws.
Throughout the holiday, the Irving Police Department partnered with law enforcement agencies in the area, as well as TXDOT, in order to provide additional manpower with the primary focus of locating and arresting impaired drivers. TxDOT introduced its weekend, in an effort to save lives and urge motorists to be smart and drive sober. Throughout the month of July, TxDOT will host Faces of Drunk Drivers and victims of drunk driving will share their stories in front of 1,170 Texas flags, representing the number of people killed in alcohol-related crashes in Texas last year.
