Irving Police Issues Warning on New Scam to Burglarize Homes

The Irving Police Department would like to warn residents of a recent scam that has been used twice, to burglarize homes in Irving. The suspects are contacting residents at their home and telling them that they work for a tree trimming company and are scheduled to trim their neighbor’s trees. In order to do so, they will need access into their backyard. They ask the resident to accompany them into their backyard in order to discuss what they will be doing. Once in the backyard, the suspects use hand-held radios to communicate with another suspect. The suspects keep the homeowners distracted long enough to allow the other suspect time to enter their home and steal property. When the suspects leave and the resident goes back inside, they notice that property has been stolen.

Use caution when allowing someone into your backyard and don’t hesitate to say “no.” Ask them to have your neighbor contact you to verify their story before allowing them into your backyard or call the police if you do not feel safe. The suspects have been described as Hispanic males in their late 20’s to early 30’s, who speak Spanish when talking on their hand-held radios.
