Irving Police: Labor Day DWI Enforcement Results

The Irving Police Department participated in the state-wide Impaired Driver Mobilization grant over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Throughout the holiday, the Irving Police Department partnered with law enforcement agencies in the area, as well as TxDOT, in order to provide additional manpower with the primary focus of locating and arresting impaired drivers. The grant is a part of TxDOT’s "Drink. Drive. Got to Jail." impaired driving campaign.

The Irving Police Department conducted a no-refusal operation in conjunction with the grant and made 25 DWI arrests. Two other arrests were made for non-alcohol related incidents and officers issued 62 citations.

Eight of those arrested for DWI refused to provide a voluntary blood sample; therefore, officers obtained a warrant from the onsite judge which authorized the collection of a blood sample.

The Department has conducted three no-refusal operations (Spring Break, Independence Day & Labor Day) this year, each funded by the Impaired Driver Mobilization grant. A total of 74 DWI arrests have been made along with 15 other non-alcohol related arrests. The Irving Police Department will continue to partner with other law enforcement agencies and TxDOT in an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes.
