Campion Trail Remain Closed Due to Flooding Damage

The northern section of Irving’s Campion Trail remains closed due to sustained flooding.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to release water from Lakes Grapevine and Lewisville. The Corps indicated in mid-June that the agency expects the lakes to continue discharging excess water for another one to two months, excluding the addition of more rainfall, before they reach normal levels again. That water flows downstream into the Trinity River and floods Campion Trail. Irving’s Parks and Recreation Department continues to isolate potentially harmful or damaged sections. When lake levels are normalized and trail flood waters recede, staff will to facilitate cleanup and infrastructure repair along the entire trail.

For their safety, residents and visitors must observe the barricades and closure signs on the trails. The city is committed to returning the trail to its preflood condition. When the safety of all park patrons can be assured, staff will open the trails to the public.

Residents with questions about specific portions of the trail can call the Parks and Recreation department at (972) 721-2501.
