Irving Police Releases Enforcement Results

Police report that during their most recent Click it or Ticket Enforcement Period (May11th through the 31st) a total of 112 citations were issued to adults and 23 to teens for no seatbelt, plus one citation was issued for a child safety seat violation. Additionally reported were twenty citations for various other violations and one arrest made for a non-traffic offense.

Prior to the Click it or Ticket enforcement campaign, officers visually surveyed traffic at five locations around the city and observed a total of 1,789 motorists. That survey yielded a seatbelt compliance rate of 97.24%. The “Post Enforcement Survey” figures revealed a 97.76% compliance rate, a .5% improvement.

This was a tremendous improvement over the 2008 Click it or Ticket surveys which showed an 83.48% compliance rate prior to that enforcement period and a 93.74% compliance rate after the campaign. This year our pre-campaign compliance rate was 3.5% higher than last year’s post-enforcement rate and this year’s post enforcement rate was 4.02% higher than last years!

The Irving Police Department remains dedicated in reducing the number of deadly and/or serious injury accidents through a combination of efforts specifically targeting unsafe speed, intoxication, safety equipment violations and other hazardous violations.
