Union tries to stop move of workers from Irving plant

A union representing some of the employees at an Irving electronics plant run by a unit of British defense contractor BAE Systems is going to court to try to stop the company’s move of a significant portion of the facility’s operations to Indiana and Mexico.

The move would leave about 150 employees at the Irving plant, which originally had nearly 600 workers, according to a Feb. 26 state filing by BAE Systems Controls Inc. about its layoffs.

The union, which has 377 members at the Irving plant, would see up to 277 of its members get pink slips, according to numbers supplied by union officials.

The suit was filed by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and two D-FW union lodges against BAE Systems Controls Inc.
