City of Irving Recognized for City Process Improvement Program and Results

State Representative Linda Harper-Brown presented the City of Irving with a resolution commending the city for its commitment to improving its business operations through the use of process improvement initiatives such as Lean Six Sigma.

City of Irving staff is trained in the basics of Lean Six Sigma, and since the program’s inception in late 2006, results have yielded more than $12.7 million in savings. The program’s successful incorporation and significant results were a major precursor for the city receiving an Achievement Award from the Quality Texas Foundation last month. Irving was the only city in Texas to attain that distinction.

The Texas Legislature has recognized these efforts and Irving as a leader in making government as lean as today’s top corporate businesses. At the state level, Representative Harper-Brown is always looking for ways to cut government waste and free up new funds for education, transportation and other issues important to Texans. As a former Irving city councilwoman, Representative Harper-Brown understands the importance of cities, like Irving, that take proactive approaches to have fiscally responsible budgets in today’s economic conditions. She encourages cities to find savings from process improvements, staffing realignments, and through critical analysis of their procedures and programs.
