City of Irving is scouting local comedians

This year, Irving’s annual comedy event, Laughs by the Lake, is taking on a virtual look called Laughs by the Sofa. Instead of an in-person comedy show held on the shores of Lake Carolyn, the event will move online to be enjoyed from the comfort of your home.

As in past years, the city is asking local comedians to submit a 3-minute video of their stand-up routine. The most entertaining comedian will be chosen to make a guest appearance during the virtual Laughs by the Sofa event, Aug. 28.

The city is asking comedians to record a 3-minute live, unedited stand-up set performed by you alone and submit the link. Set must be family friendly. A YouTube video is preferred. Submit one link only. Please do not send a downloadable clip.

The submission deadline is Aug. 21. Go to CityofIrving.org/Comedy to enter. The winner will be announced Aug. 24.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Thanks to Zoom, the city is inviting residents to log into the Irving Parks and Recreation Facebook page or visit the website, IrvingEvents.org to reserve a spot for you and your family. Tickets are free, though limited, so reservations are required.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 28. Come laugh along with the hosts from the Comedy Arena and a specially selected local comedian. It promises to be a fun, interactive show. See if you can tell whether the guests are ribbing or telling the truth with outrageous, funny questions!
