IRVING, Texas - The family activities of Celebrating Irving: The City and The Man will kick off soon for the 19th annual program during the month of April. Focusing on the life and works of author and America’s First Man of Letters Washington Irving as well as the history and current events of the City of Irving, the public is invited to participate in all the free events.
Starting on Friday, April 10, an I Celebrate Irving Family Game Night will be held at Lively Pointe Youth Center, 909 N. O’Connor, 6-8:30pm. A wide variety of games for all ages, entertainment, line dancing, a special VIP Quiz, prizes, photo booth, crafts for young guests and refreshments top the list for the evening. This will be followed on Thurs., April 16 with a movie at the South Library 5-7pm.
The annual Irving Trivia is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at 9am in the Jack Huffman auditorium, 801 West Irving Blvd. Teams compete for the trophy and bragging rights with their knowledge of Irving – the City and the Man. Using GPS-enabled devices (like smartphones) on a high-tech, outdoor treasure-hunt game will be ongoing during the month of April. Players will navigate to a local Irving location, find the hidden, often camouflaged container, sign the logbook, and return it for the next person to find. Participants who also log the find on the associated geocaching website will be entered into a weekly drawing for a commemorative t-shirt.
