The City of Irving recently announced that residents and businesses can take advantage of Text-to-911 service, as part of the region's 9-1-1 district service upgrade.
During an emergency, it's not always possible for someone to speak or make a phone call. With the Text-to-911 service, those needing emergency services and simply send a text to 911 for help. Text the address of the emergency and what kind of help needed (ambulance, police, fire, etc.). The 911 service cannot receive photos, videos or audio clips. Currently, language translation services are not available when texting.
Keep in mind that Irving Police and Fire Departments prefer phone calls to 911 when possible, as a dispatcher can ask for more information than a text may be able to provide.
