Library visitors can rediscover the classics or view recent DVD releases on a weekly basis at no cost, an attractive alternative to paying movie rental fees. Other budget boosters include downloadable music and audio books from the library’s Web site, www.cityofirving/library.org, which can save as much as $10 per recording project. Free access to wireless Internet and public terminals with word processing software may allow patrons to downgrade or eliminate home Internet services for an average savings of $360 per year.

“When money is tight, people often cut back on educational endeavors,” said Christine Dobson, library services supervisor, “The library offers free computer classes and other public training, such as certified babysitter courses and sign language lessons that can aid in job enrichment skills at no cost to the public.”

The Irving Public Library also is committed to economic development in all sectors of Irving’s economy. Services of interest to small business owners looking to cut corners but increase productivity include access to online databases such as Business and Company Resource Center, ReferenceUSA, and Auto Repair Reference Center.
