Winter Storm Uri has caused the shelves at grocery stores and food banks across Texas to be sparsely stocked. On behalf of its bank members, the Texas Bankers Foundation (TBF), the charitable arm of the Texas Bankers Association, is making a $26,000 contribution to the Feeding Texas Network reaching affiliated food banks serving all 254 counties in Texas.
“The Texas Bankers Foundation is funded by community bankers and banks of every size across the state,” said TBF Chair Lizzie Williams of Amarillo National Bank. “Texas bankers are moving quickly to help because we know our communities are in great need due to the compounded effects of the historic winter storm and the pandemic,” Williams said.
In 2020, TBF seeded the Texas Banks 4 Food Banks program with a $26,000 donation to the Feeding Texas Network in response to COVID-19. Texas banks responded generously, donating nearly $1 million to food banks to include Feeding Texas affiliates as well as to other local and faith-based food pantries.
“Hundreds of thousands of Texans are going to turn to food banks in the days and weeks to come, on top of the millions already struggling to feed their families during the pandemic,” said Celia Cole, CEO of Feeding Texas. “We are grateful for the support of the Texas Bankers Foundation. Their donation will help Texas food banks keep their communities nourished and resilient through this crisis.”
