The Irving Police Athletic League Very Busy Over the Summer

The Irving Police Athletic League (IPAL) boxers have had a busy and successful summer.  In July the Team participated in the 2009 Games of Texas in San Antonio, TX. The event was a four day tournament. There were over 350 boxers from the State of Texas. IPAL had 22 boxers that entered the tournament. 17 of those boxers advanced to the finals, from which 6 boxers placed 2nd and 11 boxers placed 1st.  The Irving PAL took the 1st Place Team Trophy!

In the first week of August, Irving PAL boxers participated in the 2009 Ringside World Championships, in Kansas City, MO., which was a five day tournament. There were over 1500 boxers participating in the tournament inclusive of teams from the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Mexico, New Zealand and Korea.  Irving PAL had 13 boxers that participated. Of the 13 boxers we had 4 advanced to the finals. Adolfo Rodriguez (bantam 9-10 65lbs division) placed 2nd and Alex Rincon (13-14 145 lbs division) placed 2nd.  Luis A. Garcia (11-12 95lbs division) placed 1st and Hector Valdez (13-14 100 lbs division) placed 1st.  Irving Police Officer R. Solis (IPAL coordinator/Coach) also participated in the competition in the Men’s 35-45 Master Division and he took 1st place in the men’s 152 lbs division.
