Governor Rick Perry and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani visited Irving on Sept. 16 to discuss the state’s efforts to combat gang violence.
Last year, Irving was one of five cities across the state to receive a $225,000 grant to combat the negative effects of gang violence.
Gov. Perry selected Irving as one of the sites to discuss his statewide gang reduction strategy because the city has been very effective in its use of the grant funds, which have been used to enhance the Police Athletic League and to fund the new Summer Hoops Program.
Irving officials encourage the continuation of its state and local partnership to help combat gang violence.
