Combat Veteran Luisa Velez Gets A Mortgage-free Home In Irving

U.S. Navy Corpsman, Third Class, Luisa Velez, and her eight-year old son Spencer received quite the surprise this morning. The combat veteran believed they were meeting with Operation Finally Home and the Dallas Builders Association for an interview. When they arrived at 312 S. Britain, they realized they were at the site of their future mortgage-free home for a hero.

On this wonderful sunny day in Irving, Texas, where despite our size, we embody a close-knit community, and that sense of community means reaching out to your neighbors and helping others. It also includes honoring and observing exemplary service from veterans who made a difference. On this wonderful day, Operation Finally Home, Dallas Builders Association, Winston Homes, City of Irving and all the other supporters of this “Honoring Heroes with Homes” Project honored medically-retired Luisa with the American Dream of home ownership. This home serves as a symbol for the appreciation of Luisa’s years of service.

"Luisa and Spencer, welcome home to Irving!", posted Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer in his facebook page.
