Euless Police Detective Killed By Drunk Driver

On Saturday, Nov. 27 at approximately 1:33 pm, Lake Worth Police and Fire Personnel were dispatched to the 4200 block Boat Club Road at Rocky Point Trail on a 2-vehicle motor vehicle crash. While Lake Worth officers were responding, callers reported that the driver of one of the vehicles involved was attempting to flee the scene on foot.

When officers arrived, they discovered 2 vehicles with extensive damage, a Jeep Wrangler and a Chevy Impala. The occupants of the Chevy Impala were still trapped inside and members of the Lake Worth Fire Department began to render medical attention. At the same time, officers were alerted that some bystanders had apprehended the driver who attempted to flee the scene. Officers contacted this person and identified him as 26-year-old Dylan Molina, a Lake Worth resident. Molina exhibited signs of intoxication and was taken into police custody.

The driver of the Chevy Impala was pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult female passenger was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with critical, life-threatening injuries. Two children who were in the back seat of the Impala were transported to Cook Children's Medical Center with serious injuries. Officers soon identified the deceased driver as Euless Police Department Detective Alejandro "Alex" Cervantes.

Investigators were able to determine the Jeep Wrangler driven by Molina ran a red light and struck the Chevy Impala on the driver side. Molina has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and three counts of intoxication assault. The Lake Worth Police Department will be leading the investigation with the assistance of the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department Crash Reconstruction Team and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC).

Euless Police issued the following statement, "Alex had served honorably with our Police Department for almost 7 years and was a member of our Police Department Honor Guard Team. He had also previously served 8 years with the El Paso Police Department. Please keep Alex's family, friends, colleagues, and the Euless community in your thoughts and prayers during this extremely difficult time."
