Irving Drivers Beware - 3 New Red Light Cameras Have Been Installed

The city has given the green light to the installation of red light cameras at three additional Irving intersections this fall to provide increased safety to motorists.

Since the installation of red light cameras in Irving more than two years ago, there has been a 64 percent reduction of red light running accidents at the designated intersections.

After a length safety study, the following three locations will have red light cameras:
  • State Highway 183 and Story Road
  • Irving Boulevard and Story Road
  • Interstate 635 and MacArthur Boulevard

Red light cameras will capture actual video and photographs of drivers who run red lights. Offenders receive a notice of violation with a fine. The notices include color photos of the driver’s car with a close-up of the vehicle’s license plate. Offenders who request additional evidence have the option of viewing a video clip online or at City Hall.

In Irving, the car owner is responsible for the violation, which may not necessarily be the person who ran the red light. Violations cost $75 each. Since the offense is considered civil, not criminal, warrants cannot be issued for the arrest of offenders, nor can the offense be added to driving records of offenders.
