Promenade Project to Enhance Pedestrian Access

The city is investing $2.2 million to create a pedestrian-friendly, 12-foot-wide walkway that will connect retailers with residential developments along Lake Carolyn. The new development will be known as the Lake Carolyn Promenade with construction set to begin this month.

The first phase of the promenade construction will focus on the portion of walkway around Lake Carolyn, east of O’Connor Road. Plans call for new steel bollards to be placed along the lake’s wall and one mile of additional concrete, which will serve as a walkway around the lake.

Project designers have included a pedestrian link on the far southeast end of the promenade, where California Crossing Road intersects with Lake Carolyn Boulevard, to allow direct access to Campión Trails. The project also includes four new boat landings along the lake for use by future water taxis. Bench seating and trash receptacles will line the public path, and the promenade will be well lit to provide a safe environment for guests.

As part of the Lake Carolyn Promenade project, two public access developments also are in the works. One will be aligned with the pedestrian link to Campión Trails and the second will be aligned with the new Lake Carolyn Station to be constructed along the Orange Line. This will give those who live around the lake access to Dallas Area Rapid Transit and will serve as a gateway to the area for visitors. The promenade design has been created with input from The Las Colinas Association and Dallas County Utility and Reclamation District. The first phase of the work is set to be completed in the summer of 2010.
