Irving Police Issues Crime Alert on Tailgate Thefts

The Irving Police Department issued a Crime Alert today with the purpose of enhancing citizen awareness to the recent crime trend in our city.

During the last several weeks, the police department has received more than thirty reports of tailgate theft in Irving. The majority have occurred in an area south of S.H. 183 with the majority of those in an area bounded by Shady Grove to the north, Hunter Ferrell to the south, Macarthur to the east and Story Road to the west.
While all vehicles with tailgates are susceptible, Ford trucks have been the most common targets. The Irving Police Department recommends making use of the factory installed locking device if your vehicle is so equiped and/or supplement your vehicle with additional locking devices or security addition that may be available.

"Though no specific method will guarantee immunity to victimization, additional recommendations to enhance security and possibly prevent/deter theft may be to utilize traditional crime prevention practices such as considering lighting conditions, parking location and direction.", the Police Department said.

Any suspicious activity or vehicles that are noticed in residential areas should be reported immediately to the Irving Police Department.
