Irving's unemployment rate increased to 8.3 percent from 7.5 percent in December.
Irving's increase is consistent with other cities in the Metroplex with Dallas' rate increasing 1.0 percent and Fort Worth's increasing 0.9 percent. The rate which is well under the national unemployment rate of 9.7 percent, factors the percentages of Irving residents who are out of work and so job losses are not necessarily attributable to Irving companies.
