Driver Dies in Crash After Fleeing from Garland Police

A 25-year-old driver was killed in a crash Wednesday night while fleeing from Garland police, officials say.

Garland PD made a traffic stop on the vehicle at approximately 10:09pm. The officer made contact with the driver, but he took off. A pursuit ensued for several minutes, but officers backed off the suspect vehicle due to the dangerously high speeds.

At around 10:18pm, Richardson Fire/EMS and Police were dispatched to a crash at the intersection of S. Greenville Avenue and Centennial Blvd.

Authorities say the driver of a sedan was driving westbound on Centennial Blvd while being pursued by Garland police. The driver ran a red light at the given intersection and t-boned a pickup truck traveling southbound on Greenville Avenue.

The driver fleeing from police was transported by paramedics to a local hospital, but pronounced deceased. Two other passengers in the vehicle were not seriously hurt. The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously hurt either.

Police found narcotics and cash inside the suspect vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation by Richardson and Garland police departments.
