THLN and Houston PetSet Team Up to Train Harris County Sheriff's Office Deputies

On December 8, THLN and Houston PetSet are hosting a training for the Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies on the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act and the 2017 animal cruelty law enhancements.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies on how to make Texas a more humane and safe state for animals and communities alike,” said Shelby Bobosky, Executive Director of THLN. “There is currently no requirement for deputies to have this formal training through Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), so this training is even more important,” finished Bobosky.

"We are happy to help provide this training for law enforcement,” said Tena Lundquist Faust, Co-President of Houston PetSet. “A law is only effective if there is enforcement which is why we believe in investing in this training. We are so grateful to THLN for continuing to support humane animal care in Houston and all across the state of Texas."

"With new laws and ordinances in place, Houston PetSet partnered with THLN to provide important training to educate officers on how to effectively enforce the laws," said Tama Lundquist, Co-President of Houston PetSet. “We are so very grateful to work with the Sheriff's Office to continue to elevate the status of companion animals and mitigate their suffering.”

“Peace officers are on the front lines of Harris County’s stray animal crisis, so it’s vital that our deputies are equipped to use every law on the books to protect animals from abuse and neglect, and to protect our residents from aggressive dogs,” said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “This training is a great investment in public safety, and we’re grateful to THLN and PetSet for their partnership.”
