Vehicle Burglaries Increasing in North Irving

A crime alert was issued this week by the Irving Police Department to inform Irving residents to be aware of the increasing vehicle burglaries.  North Irving has been specially hit hard.

A vehicle burglary is generally a crime of ease and opportunity which causes thousands of dollars in damage and property loss every week.  The police department urges citizens to do their part to reduce these opportunities for criminals.

"The majority of victims had one or more items of value visible from outside their vehicle," explained an Irving Police communication issued today.

Drivers should made sure to remove any items of value from their vehicles or at least hide them from view.

The following is the top five items stolen from vehicles:

 #1 - Phones/GPS/CD Players/ Radio/Sound Devices

#2 - Equipment/Tools/Power Tools

#3 - Purse/Briefcase/Personal Accessories (non-clothing)

#4 - Cash/Coin/Money Orders

Facts show that the majority of criminals involved in these crimes are simply looking into parked vehicles, for any items of value and take them when the opportunity presents itself.

Please be mindful of these facts and take steps to protect your property from theft. Be observant and immediately contact the police if you see "suspicious" persons or activity near parked vehicles!
