On the evening of March 16th, police were summoned to Children’s Medical Center regarding the death of 7-month-old Giselle Gallegos of Irving.
The initial investigation indicated that Giselle’s mother, Maria Gallegos, had gone shopping and her 31 year-old boyfriend, Ruperto Florencio, stayed at their apartment to care for the infant.
Maria later received a call from Florencio telling her that Giselle was sick and that she needed to come home. Upon her arrival all three went to Baylor Hospital in Irving where doctors began emergency care and contacted Children’s Medical Center for immediate transfer.
Shortly after arriving at Children’s, Giselle was pronounced dead.
Further investigation revealed that Giselle died from internal injuries not considered to be from an accidental cause.
Florencio was arrested this past wednesday by Irving Police and is currently in the Irving City Jail as investigators prepare to charge him with Capital Murder in the infant’s death.
