Grand Prairie Teacher/Coach Arrested for Improper Relationship with Student

The Grand Prairie Police Department is investigating an Improper Relationship Between an Educator and a Student. On December 4, 2022,Grand Prairie Detectives were notified of an alleged intimate relationship between a GPISD male Teacher/Coach and an 18-year-old female student.

Detectives initiated an investigation which subsequently led to the arrest of Teacher/Coach Kenrick Burns, 28 years of age.

Today, December 14th, Burns was booked into the Grand Prairie Detention Center on a charge of Improper Relationship Between an Educator and a Student, a second-degree felony, with a bond set at $50,000.

Grand Prairie ISD said Burns was initially placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, but he has submitted his resignation.

The district has reported this case to the Texas Education Agency.

"I want parents to know that we do not tolerate any form of inappropriate communication or contact between a teacher and a student," Grand Prairie ISD Superintendent Linda Ellis said in a statement. "We will always act swiftly to make sure concerns are properly investigated and appropriate action is taken to ensure our students’ safety."

This case remains under investigation.
