Driver Arrested for Racing in Arlington Fatal Crash

The Arlington Police Department says one driver was killed and another arrested following a racing-related crash.

At around 5:14 pm Sunday evening, Arlington Fire, Police, and EMS responded to the scene of a major accident on westbound Interstate 30 near Fielder Road. First arriving crews located an overturned vehicle off the highway submerged in a small body of water. The department’s Technical Rescue Team from Station 8 and Dive Team from Station 7 all responded to assist in the rescue.

Firefighters extricated both men from the vehicle. The driver, a 27-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 22-year-old passenger was transported by Arlington EMS to a Fort Worth hospital in critical condition.

Investigators believe the driver was racing a second vehicle on Interstate 30 when he attempted to pass a vehicle on the right shoulder. He lost control while attempting the pass and crashed off the highway.

The 23-year-old driver of the other vehicle stopped after the crash and remained at the scene. After speaking with police, they arrested him for one count of Racing on a Highway Causing Serious Bodily Injury / Death.

“The Arlington Police Department wants to remind the public that street racing is not only incredibly dangerous, it’s a serious crime that will not be tolerated.”
