Irving Police Issues Results of Spring Break Special Enforcement

Irving, Texas, Police report that during the week of March 12 –21, 2010 (Spring Break), enhanced traffic enforcement was conducted focusing on D.W.I., speed, and proper use of seatbelts/safety seats. These efforts were part of a state-wide initiative funded by on-going grants which have shown continued success in Irving and across the state.

During the time officers were working the enforcement grant they observed a high percentage of compliance by drivers and only a minimal number of citations were issued (23 speed violations and 22 other violations). In addition to those citations a total of 12 arrests were made, 9 for DWI and 3 for other reasons.

Regarding this most recent initiative, Irving Police Traffic Lieutenant Stephan Granberry noted; "Speed and alcohol use by drivers continues to be problematic as a major causative factor in motor vehicle crashes, however with continued driver education, voluntary compliance by drivers, and enforcement action (as needed) the reduction of injury and fatal accidents is an attainable goal that we will strive to reach."
