On January 27, 2023, at about 8:50 P.M., Dallas Police responded to multiple calls in the 4200 block of Buena Vista Street for a man who was attempting to enter multiple homes.
The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived, they found the man in the 4200 block of Buena Vista. Officers attempted to take the man into custody, but he resisted and ran across the street. Officers deployed tasers but they were ineffective. The suspect, Roderick Green, 32, turned toward one officer and started to chase her. The officer unholstered her gun. Green grabbed the officer and tackled her, taking her to the ground. During the fight on the ground, Green grabbed the Officers hand and weapon and the weapon discharged. The second responding officer was able to take control of the suspect and he was taken into custody.
Green was arrested for Assault on Public Servant, and Attempting to Take a Peace Officer’s Weapon.
No officers or civilians were hit by gunfire.
The officer was taken to a local hospital and treated and released. Green was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and released and taken to the Dallas County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and is documented under case numbers 016186-1023 and 016122-2023.
Further investigation determined Green was involved in another incident earlier in the evening. On January 27, 2023, at about 7:20 p.m., Dallas Police responded to major accident call in the 2400 block of N. Henderson Avenue. The preliminary investigation determined a sedan was travelling northbound 5200 Belmont Avenue. The car turned onto eastbound 2400 N. Henderson Avenue, left the road, ran onto the sidewalk, and hit a patio wall. The driver, identified as Green, left the scene. There were no injuries reported.
