Man in Custody after 24 hours on Crane in Dallas

On February 13, 2023, at around 7:30 am, Dallas Police received a 911 call of a man on a crane in the 1000 block of Singleton Blvd.

The preliminary investigation determined when DPD and Dallas Fire Rescue arrived, the man was approximately 150 feet in the air, and potentially suicidal.

Dallas SWAT was requested and arrived on scene at approximately 8:15 am and started negotiations with the man, attempting to get him to come off the crane voluntarily.

The man refused, and negotiations continued for the rest of the day and through the night.

At one point, negotiations were paused for safety reasons, due to storms in the area.

On February 14, 2023, around 7:45 am, SWAT members were able to make their way to the cab of the crane where the man was sheltering and take him into custody.

The man appeared to have a self-inflicted cut to his abdomen, but the injury was not life-threatening.

Dallas SWAT worked with Dallas Fire Rescue to lower the man to the ground, and he was taken by DFR to a local hospital for evaluation.

The man has not been charged at this time, however, charges are possible.

Surrounding streets were closed during the police activity but have been opened to traffic.
