Your guide to Irving's city election

This year's City Council Election may be one of the most import and one of the most confusing in recent history.  The changes brought about by the Federal Mandated Redistricting have changed the landscape of the Irving City Council races.  In the past each voter in Irving could cast a vote for each District - all districts were elected at large.  The change is that now six (6) districts are "single member districts" and two (2) districts are "at large".

The Candidates running "At Large" can live anywhere in Irving and any voter can vote for them.  The Candidates running in a "Single Member District" must live in the District they want to represent and only the voters that live in that district may vote for the candidate.

This year we will elect Council Members for "Single Member District #1", "At Large District #2", and "Single Member District #7".  All voters in Irving can cast a vote in District #2.  Only voters living in District #1 may cast a vote for District #1 and only voters living in District #7 may cast a vote for District #7.

The South Irving Property Owner's Association put together an excellent document as a guide for this year's election.
