The unemployment rate for Irving in March held steady at 8.1 percent, the same as February although the number of people in the workforce increased according to the latest reports from the Texas Workforce Commission.
Meanwhile, Texas' unemployment rate was 8.2 percent which compares very favorably to the national unemployment rate of 9.7 percent. The national unemployment rate increased to 9.9 percent in April.
In related news, in a recent survey conducted by the Dallas Business Journal, 19 of the Metroplex's largest companies are based in Irving, the most of any city other than Dallas and Fort Worth.
The Irving-based companies are: ExxonMobil, Fluor Corporation, Kimberly-Clark, Commercial Metals, Flowserve Corporation, Zale Corporation, Pioneer Natural Resources, FelCor Lodging Trust, CEC Entertainment, Darling International, Brinks Home Security / Broadview Security, Carbo Ceramics Inc., Nexstar Broadcasting, DG FastChannel, Pioneer Southwest Energy Partners, EF Johnson Technologies, RBC Life Sciences, Thomas Group and Dynaresources, Inc. DG FastChannel was also recognized as one of the fastest growing public companies in North Texas.
