Hollywood Theatres announced back in May that it had installed RealD™ 3D technology to its theatres. Shrek Forever After was the first film to be displayed in 3D.
The 3D introduction at the Hollywood Theaters MacArthur Marketplace 16 theaters will be presented in BARCO 2K digital projection , combining Texas Instrument’s 0.98” DLP Cinema chip and 0.98” DMD (Digital Micro-mirror Device) offering 2048x1080 pixel resolution, and digital sound with RealD™ 3D technology, enabling the exhibitor to deliver the highest-quality 3D digital projection. RealD™ works by recognizing that each eye sees a slightly different image with the brain combining the images to form a single picture. Different points of view allow the brain to judge depth and distance. RealD™ uses those characteristics of human perception to create a 3D image. The image is then projected on to a custom screen which delivers bright crisp 3D visuals.
“Being on the forefront of the latest digital cinema technology allows us to provide audiences the highest quality entertainment available,” said Clyde Cornell, chief operating officer for Hollywood Theaters. Looking forward to the 20 3D features scheduled for 2010, Cornell continues, “RealD™ 3D technology gives our patrons in the Irving community the opportunity to view motion pictures as never before, combining the highest levels of resolution, contrast and image quality to produce precise, life-like images in vibrant colors.”
