Murder Suspect Dies While in Police Custody in Dallas: Investigation Underway

In a turn of events during an ongoing murder investigation, Xzavier Franklin, a 39-year-old person of interest, passed away at a local hospital on June 21, 2023, after being taken into custody by Dallas Police earlier in the day.

The incident unfolded at approximately 11:00 a.m. when Dallas Police conducted a routine traffic stop, which led to the apprehension of Xzavier Franklin. The arrest was made on the basis of outstanding warrants related to unrelated charges. Mr. Franklin was then transported to Dallas Police Headquarters for questioning in connection with the ongoing murder investigation.

Following an interview with officers, Xzavier Franklin reportedly informed the authorities that he was feeling unwell and required medical attention. In response to his request, Dallas Fire Rescue was immediately contacted at 3:11 p.m., and they swiftly arrived on the scene at 3:15 p.m. They then proceeded to transport Mr. Franklin to a local hospital, with the ambulance departing at 3:37 p.m. and arriving at the medical facility at 4:10 p.m.

Despite medical intervention, Xzavier Franklin succumbed to his condition and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:00 p.m.

An autopsy will be performed on June 23, and toxicology is pending.

The investigation is ongoing and being investigated by the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit under case number 113640-2023.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s office was notified and will conduct their own investigation.

The Office of Community Police Oversight was notified.
