Travis Rollins, a 39-year-old individual, has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after a shooting incident that left a 10-year-old boy in critical condition. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at a mobile home park located in the 3900 block of Teasley Lane, Denton.
At approximately 7:42 p.m., multiple witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the area. Shortly after, it was reported that a child had been shot. Denton Fire medics quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured boy to a local hospital, while Denton Police initiated an investigation into the shooting.
Detectives determined that the young boy and his mother were standing outside a residence when Travis Rollins arrived in a pickup truck. Rollins exited his vehicle and fired shots in the direction of both victims. He then proceeded to approach the home, fired additional rounds, and subsequently returned to his truck before driving away from the scene.
Tragically, the young boy sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the incident, while his mother managed to escape unharmed. Several neighboring residences were also struck by bullets, although no additional injuries were reported.
The mother of the victim positively identified Travis Rollins as the suspect. Later that evening, around 9:30 p.m., the Duncanville Police Department located Rollins within their jurisdiction and took him into custody on an unrelated Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon warrant issued in Ellis County.
Currently, Rollins, a resident of Midlothian, is being held in the City of Denton Jail with a bail amount set at $1.1 million. The bail is allocated as follows: $500,000 for each of the Denton charges, and $100,000 for the Ellis County warrant.
Meanwhile, the 10-year-old boy was airlifted to an area hospital on the same night and remains in critical condition. Authorities continue to investigate the shooting incident, hoping to gather more information about the motive behind the attack.
