A fierce fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon at the Saintsville Church of God, located at 2200 Marsalis, prompting a swift response from Dallas Fire Rescue. Thanks to the heroic efforts of the firefighters, the main sanctuary was spared from significant damage.
At approximately 1:54 p.m., emergency services received reports of a fire at the Saintsville Church of God. Dallas Fire Rescue quickly dispatched multiple units to the scene, and upon arrival, the first responders observed smoke emanating from vents and eaves of the church structure. Immediate action was taken to suppress the fire.
As the incident escalated, reaching a third alarm at 2:34 p.m., fire crews switched to defensive fire attack tactics to control the rapidly spreading flames. Air 1, the department's aerial support unit, was deployed to assist in monitoring the situation from above.
For several hours, South Marsalis between Eastwood and Illinois was closed to vehicular traffic to facilitate fireground operations. The situation was challenging, and the intensity of the fire required additional resources. By the time five alarms were called, the fire was largely under control, thanks to the use of defensive tactics and the deployment of six ladder pipes in the air to fight the flames and protect the main sanctuary.
The severity of the situation necessitated the calling of a total of six alarms to bring in more manpower due to the extreme heat and to ensure the safety of all firefighters involved.
A commendable response was seen as over 30 firefighting apparatuses and close to 150 firefighters rushed to the scene to battle the inferno.
