A hit-and-run accident occurred on Saturday, August 12, at approximately 2:28 AM on eastbound Interstate 30 at 2nd Ave. The incident involved a red tow truck, a van, and an SUV, resulting in the loss of a Good Samaritan's life.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Units, the initial collision was caused by the red tow truck colliding with a van, causing the van to spin and face oncoming traffic. Shockingly, the tow truck driver fled the scene after the collision.
A Good Samaritan stopped to offer assistance at the scene. Tragically, while standing near the wreckage, an SUV collided with both the van and the Good Samaritan. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at a local hospital. The passenger of the van sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Irma Nelly Martinez-Leal, 33, was apprehended by Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputies. Martinez-Leal is now facing charges that include Intoxication Manslaughter, Intoxication Assault with Vehicle, and a second count of Intoxication Assault with Vehicle.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Vehicle Crimes Unit is actively investigating the incident and is working to locate the red tow truck and its driver, who fled the scene of the initial collision.
