The City of Irving has launched iALERT, a free notification system that will provide residents with critical information during emergencies or dangerous situations. It allows city officials to notify specific areas of the city’s population about gas leaks, unsafe water, power outages or major threats to public safety.
Residents must sign up online to start receiving notifications. Users can specify what areas of the city they want to receive information by adding addresses for their home, schools or day care centers for children or job locations.
“The service is completely customizable,” said Jason Carriere, assistant emergency management coordinator. “Residents can choose what areas they want to be notified about. It’s within their power to sign up and receive up-to-the-minute information to keep their families safe during an emergency.”
The application sends messages to communication devices added by residents. Options include landlines, mobile phones, e-mails and text messaging.
“During a disaster or emergency situation when information is critical, iALERT arms residents with the details they need to keep their families safe,” said Carriere.
