In the early hours of August 24, 2023, the Arlington Fire Department responded to a distress call regarding a kitchen fire at a residence at 706 White Oak Lane bear N Bowen Road. The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 am and led to a tragic outcome.

Upon arrival, crews from Truck 1, Engine 1, and Engine 4 found a one-story residential home with smoke emanating from the front entrance. The situation escalated when it was confirmed that an adult male and a dog were trapped inside, prompting the fire response to be upgraded to a second alarm.

Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, the adult male victim was located inside a bedroom. Crews from Truck 1 and Engine 1 worked diligently to extricate the victim from the structure. Emergency medical care was administered immediately on-site and continued en route to a local medical facility. Regrettably, the victim was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The victim was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as 51-year-old Steven Roberts.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, the victim's pet dog was also found deceased at the scene. As a precaution, the victim's parents were transported to a local medical facility for assessment and medical attention.
