On September 7, 2023, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 5300 block of Colonial Avenue. The preliminary investigation revealed that when officers arrived at the scene, they discovered three men and one woman who had been shot.
The victims were immediately attended to by first responders, and the three male victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The three males are expected to survive their injuries, but the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following this incident, Dallas Police received another call for a barricaded person in the 4800 block of Botham Jean Boulevard. Subsequent investigation determined that the suspect from the earlier shooting on Colonial Avenue was involved in this incident. The suspect has been identified as 44-year-old Larry Deckard, who had barricaded himself inside a local business.
In response to the situation, the Dallas Police Department's SWAT team was dispatched to the scene to address the barricade situation. After a coordinated effort, law enforcement successfully apprehended Larry Deckard without any reported injuries.
Larry Deckard has been taken to a local hospital for evaluation. He will face charges of Murder in connection with the shooting on Colonial Avenue.
