With the majority of structural steel in place and roof installation beginning, Lady Bird Johnson Middle School is taking shape.
The eighth and newest middle school in Irving ISD is being constructed as a “Net Zero” facility – designed to produce as much energy as it consumes. The facility will house the traditional mix of classrooms and support areas as well as incorporate state-of-the-art, super-efficient mechanical systems and the use of sustainable building materials. This effort is about the promotion and creation of environmentally conscientious learning for the next generation of students.
Principal Angie Gaylord, "LBJMS is envisioned as a neighborhood middle school organized with innovative 21st century ideals. The teaching and learning will be somewhat unique in keeping with the net-zero design. Students from across the District, as well as within the LBJMS attendance zone, will learn through practical, hands-on experiences about environmental stewardship, energy conservation and such topics as geothermal science, rainwater collection, solar panel usage, and wind turbine efficiency. Because LBJMS presents unique learning opportunities for all students in the District, the campus has been designed to host 60-70 visiting students on a daily basis.
