In the early hours of September 24, 2023, at approximately 12:40 am, covert officers from the Dallas Police Department were conducting a routine investigation near the intersection of Barnes Ridge Road and El Capitan when they spotted a stolen vehicle.
According to preliminary reports, the undercover officers called for uniformed officers to conduct a traffic stop on the suspicious vehicle. As the uniformed officers approached the suspect, he drew a handgun and fired shots at the officers. The officers returned fire. The suspect fled the scene, leading to a pursuit. However, the high-speed chase came to a sudden and violent halt as the suspect lost control of the stolen vehicle, causing it to flip over.
As officers approached the wrecked vehicle, the suspect fired at them again. Officers returned fire, and the suspect was struck. The suspect died from his injuries.
A woman inside the vehicle at the time of the crash was unharmed, and no officers were injured.
