The Balch Springs Police Department received a 911 call on July 2nd, 2023, reporting a shooting in the 11300 block of Lake June Road in Balch Springs. The caller informed the authorities that a male victim, later identified as Bertin Albarran, aged 39 and from Dallas, was shot and left in the middle of the road. According to the witness, the suspect fled the scene in a red Chevrolet Camaro heading westbound on Lake June Road.
During the preliminary investigation, detectives located the red Chevrolet Camaro and the victim's cell phone hours after the incident. Surveillance footage from a nearby business revealed the suspect, identified as 22-year-old John Rivera, in the driver's seat of the Camaro and the victim stepping out of the passenger seat. The victim was shot multiple times while standing outside the vehicle, after which the suspect fled.
Rivera was known to be with the victim at a house party in the hours leading up to the incident. A murder warrant has been issued for Rivera's arrest. The Balch Springs Police Department has sought assistance from the U.S. Marshal's North Texas Fugitive Task Force to apprehend the suspect.
Throughout the investigation, the victim's family has been in constant contact with the Balch Springs Police Department. Detectives have briefed the family multiple times, keeping them updated on the progress of the investigation. The family was notified about the issuance of the murder warrant shortly after it was signed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
