Teen Mom and Baby Found Dead

On Wednesday, 12-15-10, at approximately 8:15 pm Irving Police received a call from a person stating that someone appeared be deceased inside a residence located in the 1000 block of Briar Oaks. When officers arrived they found a 15-year-old female and a 1-month-old male inside the residence. The female was pronounced deceased at the residence and the 1-month-old was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The 15-year-old is the mother of the 1-month-old.

The Dallas County medical examiner's office this morning identified the dead as Rebecca Ray, 15, and Cole Childress, who was 1 month old.

There were no signs of trauma or visible injuries to either person and there was no indication that a violent act occurred inside the residence. The Medical Examiner has performed an autopsy on the female and male and no injuries or trauma was found. The cause and manner of death are pending toxicology and histology. It could take two to three months before the results of these tests are known.

The mother of the 15-year-old was the person who discovered her daughter and grandson inside the residence. She then called the police. Again, due to the on-going status of this investigation limited information is being released.

Ray attended Irving ISD schools, and Superintendent Dana Bedden issued a statement today expressing sympathy and an offer to help students and staff who knew Ray.

"As the Superintendent of Irving ISD, I am saddened by the loss of one of our students,." Bedden said in the statement. "The Irving ISD professional staff have mobilized to provide support and services to any of our students, staff, and parents during this difficult time. We extend our sympathies to the family and friends."
