Dallas Police responded to a call about a robbery in progress on October 7, 2023, at approximately 3:40 PM near the intersection of Skillman Street and westbound LBJ Service Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered Eric Ortiz, 40, had been struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Skillman and Leisure. Ortiz was immediately transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ortiz and a witness were pursuing a stolen truck when Ortiz was hit by the stolen vehicle. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Michael Perez, was apprehended by officers after a brief pursuit. Perez was arrested without incident.
Michael Perez has been charged with Capital Murder, and his bond has been set at $1 million. He is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings.
