Teen Driver Looses Control of Truck Causing Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash in Arlington

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at approximately 7:39 p.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to a three-vehicle crash in the 1500 block of West Sanford Street between N. Fielder Rd and N. Davis Dr.

According to investigators, the driver of a 2007 Toyota Tundra was traveling in the eastbound lanes along West Sanford Street when he lost control of the pickup. The Tundra veered into the opposite lane of traffic and collided with a 2013 Honda Civic traveling westbound. The impact caused the Civic to spin and collide with a Kia Spectra parked in a nearby driveway.

Tragically, the driver of the Civic, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities were not been able to identify him at the time of the accident as he did not have any identification on his person.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner later identified the victim as 26-year-old Chrsthian David Lopez-Peña.

The driver of the Toyota Tundra, a teenage male, escaped serious injury and was treated and released by medics at the scene. During their investigation, officers conducted a series of field sobriety tests on the teenage male and determined that there were no signs of intoxication. However, further investigation revealed that the teenage male was in possession of marijuana and was subsequently arrested.

Speed and road conditions are believed to have been contributing factors in the crash. The Arlington Police Department continues its investigation into the incident.
