In a recent verdict, 26-year-old Kendell Jerrell Morris was found guilty by a Tarrant County jury for murder and subsequently sentenced to 27 years in prison. The incident occurred on May 4, 2020, when Morris drove from Houston to Arlington with the intention of harming the new boyfriend of the mother of his child.
Mistakenly identifying 24-year-old Robert Cooley III as the intended target, Morris opened fire with an AR-15 rifle at the Bardin Greene Apartments in Arlington. Tragically, Cooley, who was not the boyfriend in question, lost his life in the shooting.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered Cooley lying face down in the parking lot, having sustained gunshot wounds. Investigator Brad Gantt led the inquiry, with victim coordinator Laura Medina offering support. Assistant District Attorneys Lisa Callaghan and DJ Estes were assigned to prosecute the case.
