On the evening of December 27, 2023, a fatal auto-pedestrian accident unfolded in the 4400 block of Booth Calloway just before 8:30 pm. Authorities responded to a distress call reporting that an adult woman had been struck by a car, sustaining visible injuries.
As police and emergency medical services rushed to the scene, the situation took a dire turn when the victim, identified as 25-year-old Mercedes Musunza Kuanda, stopped breathing. Immediate CPR efforts were initiated, and the injured woman was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical interventions, she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Gabriella Anchondo, has been taken into custody in connection with the incident. Anchondo faces charges of Intoxication Manslaughter with a vehicle, classified as a second-degree felony. Her bond has been set at $75,000.
It was revealed that Anchondo had been arrested earlier in the month, on December 12, by North Richland Hills authorities for DWI 2nd offense. At the time of the fatal crash, she was out on bond awaiting trial. Currently held at the Tarrant County Jail, Anchondo awaits legal proceedings in connection with this tragic event.
