After a comprehensive multi-year sexual assault investigation, Denton Police Department announced the arrest and indictment of Jason Warren in connection with two separate cases. The incidents occurred in the 2400 and 2500 blocks of Charlotte Street in 2020.
On March 8, 2020, a woman reported an attempted assault when a male suspect entered her residence and tried to force her onto her bed. The victim resisted, and the suspect fled the scene. DNA evidence collected at the time yielded an unknown profile entered into the CODIS database.
On Nov. 7, 2020, another case unfolded in the same neighborhood. A male suspect knocked on a woman's door, engaged in casual conversation, and then forced his way into her apartment, committing sexual assault. A forensic examination kit was completed, revealing an unknown male DNA profile.
In December 2022, Denton PD discovered a link between the DNA profiles from both cases. Seeking assistance from the Dallas FBI, further DNA testing led to the identification of a relative of the unknown suspect in November 2023. This eventually led to the identification of 38-year-old Jason Warren, a current Marshall resident.
With collaboration from the FBI and the Joint Harrison County Violent Crime and Narcotics Task Force, a DNA sample was obtained from Warren in December 2023. Analysis confirmed that Warren's DNA profile could not be excluded as a contributor to the collected samples.
On Tuesday, Jan. 9, Warren was indicted on two counts of sexually motivated Burglary of a Habitation Intend Other Felony, both first-degree felonies. He was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 11, on warrants from Denton PD and a Criminal Trespass of a Habitation warrant from the Waco Police Department. Warren is currently held in the Harrison County Jail on a $210,000 bond and is being transported to the Denton County Jail.
Denton PD expressed gratitude to the FBI, the Joint Harrison County Violent Crime and Narcotics Task Force (including officers from the Marshall Police Department and the Harrison County Sheriff's Office), and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their assistance in the investigation and apprehension of Warren.
The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information related to these cases or other unreported incidents is urged to contact Detective Marqui Curtis at (940) 349-7727.
